Nördlich des Volksparks Wuhlheide, nahe der Stadtbahn, steht eine großangelegte Wohnanlage mit zweiundneunzig mehrheitlich auf gemeinschaftliches Wohnen ausgelegten Appartments. Nur die schlanken Stützpfeiler des Baus berühren den Waldboden. Die Geschossebenen falten sich elegant dazwischen auf. Jedes der sieben Treppenhäuser ist über einen Waldweg, der zu einer in den Bau integrierten Brücke wird, erreichbar – so kann man fussläufig rasch die Stadtbahn erreichen oder mit seinem Fahrrad direkt von der Haustür aus aufbrechen. Das Dach ist auf zwei Ebenen für die Gemeinschaft offen und ist erweitert durch natürliche Vegetation den dichten Charakter des Waldes.
North of Volkspark Wuhlheide, close to a suburban railway station, the residential structure offers ninety-two apartments, most of which are designed for communal living. Only the slender pillars of the structure touch the forest ground, followed by the floor levels that fold up elegantly between them. Each of the seven staircases is accessible via a redirected forest path that becomes an integrated bridge. The two stories on top are open to the community. The plant life found on the roof is a continuation of the natural langscape found on ground level. By placing the entire structure on concrete stilts, the forest surface remains largely untouched and wild – a life within nature instead of just next to it.
